CGRA1000 extra-credit options

In addition to such factors mentioned on your syllabus as perfect attendance, helping others, doing additional sketches in your book, and rewards for attitude, here are some extra assignments you can do to earn more points. These are listed in order of the amount of additional credit you'll receive.

  • Obtain a recent copy of a major design / computer magazine such as Print, Communication Arts, Wired, Photoshop User, etc. and write up a summary of an article of your choosing. Explain why the topic is important or interesting to you and what impact you think it has on you as a designer.  Attach a copy of the article for my benefit.
  • Find an ad in the yellow pages of any phone book. Photocopy it or scan it in (if it's your phone book you can rip it out, but don't ruin someone else's book). Redesign that ad in Illustrator so it communicates more clearly and is more logically laid out.  You should use your own graphics and type, not the original ones used in the ad. You can, however, use any logos found in the ad. Please attach a copy of the ad for me to see.
  • Obtain a copy of one of the "additional resources" books listed in your syllabus, or another design-related book to be approved by me. Complete a "book report" on it, outlining the major points made in each chapter by the author. Alternately, for less credit you can analyze and summarize one chapter or section.

These assignments are due on the last class day before the final exam.
