EXTRA CREDIT

You can do the extra credit anytime during the trimester, but it must be turned in by the last day of class before exams. You may do a maximum of 2 extra credit assignments.

1. Obtain a recent copy of a major design / computer magazine such as Print, Communication Arts, i.d., Wired, etc. and write up a summary of an article of your choosing. Explain why the topic is important or interesting to you and what impact you think it has on you as a designer. Attach a copy of the article for my benefit. (Max worth= 1/2 assignment)

2. Find an ad in the yellow pages of any phone book. Photocopy it or scan it in (if it's your phone book you can rip it out, but don't ruin someone else's book). Redesign that ad in Illustrator so it communicates more clearly and is more logically laid out. You should use your own graphics and type, not the original ones used in the ad. You can choose, however, to use any logos found in the ad. Please attach a copy of the ad for me to see. (Max worth = 1/2 assignment)

3. We didn't have time this trimester for an assignment I typically do. If you'd like to try it, it's a lot of fun. See Assignment #4- Type as Shapes (Max worth = 1 full assignment)

4. Obtain a copy of one of the "additional resources" books listed in your syllabus, or another design-related book to be approved by me. Complete a "book report" on it, outlining the major points made in each chapter by the author. Alternately, for less credit you can analyze and summarize one chapter or section. (Max worth= 1 full assignment.)
